Intern Roles Volunteer Roles About our Internships We are seeking hard-working and enthusiastic individuals who would like an internship with a thriving film and media organisation. We are a media charity that holds an annual film festival, live events, yearly film screenings and programming, runs industry training, masterclasses and talks, education programmes and community projects. Our internship programme is designed to give you real-life experience across a range of industry roles including production; events management; social media; marketing; design; admin and more! We will give you an opportunity to work across all our organisational strands - festival, industry and events, community, education, and charity to gain valuable experience in varied roles within the creative industry. You may work as a production assistant on one of our live events or online masterclasses; a researcher or content creator for our social media; a designer of digital assets for one of our programmes or an event planner for one of our live events. We are looking for adaptable and enthusiastic people who are ready for a challenge and want to try their hand at lots of different roles within the media. Interns will be supported through their time at Mor Media via regular meetings and monitoring via their activity log sheet and development logs. This will also feed into the completion of an OCN Award which will see them complete two units, one will be linked to the creative skills needed to complete work required by the role, and one will be a reflective evaluation on the work they have done during their internship. This role involves supporting our Short Film Manager by reviewing the suitability of submissions for consideration. You do not have to be based in the UK to apply, as all the viewing will be done remotely (access to a computer, and a stable internet connection is necessary). Main Duties and Responsibilities On average pre-selectors will view between 5-6 hours of content as we encourage voting from multiple selectors to ensure fairness. CFF receives around 300 submissions on average, but overall hours may increase if we go beyond this total - so some flexibility is encouraged. Viewing, and assisting with the submission process through our festival platform FilmFreeway.Our short film submissions will be from all types of genres but will be no more than 20 minutes in length. Meetings with key festival members, including members of the Awarding Jury (this will help you gain insight into the festival & filmmaking industry). Key Skills/ Traits An understanding of film festival standards and a critical eye. Of course enthusiasm is the most important! Organised and the able to work to deadlines Knowledge and Experience The successful candidate should be able to evidence the following essential criteria: An interested in films, filmmaking, programming, curation & exhibition. Knowledge of FilmFreeway is preferable, but there will be an opportunity for those unfamiliar with FilmFreeway to meet and learn the basics needed to be a preselector for CFF. An annual celebration of animation in Cornwall! ANIMATE Cornwall Celebrating animation in Cornwall. About Mor Media is dedicated to promoting the medium of Animation throughout Cornwall! This involves promotion on social media, screenings at Cornwall Film Festival and our yearly ANIMATE Cornwall festival across the county. ANIMATE Cornwall is a yearly project celebrating ani mation in Cornwall. We screen films, hold workshops and more i n partnership with CAST and The Museum of Cornish Life. Through the project, we encourage people of all ages to become more involved in the medium: be it as a viewer or a creator. Together with Falmouth University and Spider Eye (an award winning and BAFTA nominated Cornish Animation Company), we have shared a vast array of animated films with local audiences since 2019. Essentially a hilarious romp featuring a group of inquisitive, accident-prone amphibians, this 7-minute short avoids hopping down the path of saccharine sweet anthropomorphism (we see all too much in animation) by blending its delicious dark subplot into proceedings. It’s a move that really lifts this short above and beyond a lot of the other films we see in the genre. Though the clever, unfolding plot was my own personal highlight of Garden Party, it would seem neglectful to gloss over that glorious aesthetic without mentioning it in more detail. From that meticulous opening shot of the frog gliding through the debris-filled pool to that incredibly textured frog rising from the plate of oyster shells, it’s the attention to detail here that truly impresses. It’s not only the frogs that are the carefully considered characters in the design though, the location feels as much of a player in the storyline as any of our long-legged protagonists and if anything it’s the conscientious depictions of the backgrounds that add that extra level to both the aesthetic and that compelling subplot. Screened in the ‘Horror: Thrilling and Chilling’ programme at this year’s Encounters festival (where it was easily the stand-out film of the session), Garden Party has been impressing audiences and juries at festival worldwide throughout 2016 & 2017. Like so many shorts I admire, the film incorporates multitudes of seemingly contradictory qualities: at a mere 5 minutes, there is really no wasted space, and yet it is exceedingly spare. Based off a celebrated Ron Koertge poem that clocks in at only 150 words, it allows for moments of subtlety and contemplation that are so necessary in visual storytelling—those perfectly blocked shots, held for an extra moment, that drive home the rich emotional interiority of its characters. It’s simultaneously one of the most humanistic films of recent memory, but it also stars no humans. I have a specific accessibility query. Access Film festival requirements checklist Create a profile for your film on several festival submission platforms, such as FilmFreeway, It’s free to do this. You will be asked for some or all of the following: Cast credits Crew credits (especially main crew: director, producer, writer, director of photography, sound recordist, production designer, costume designer – add others that are especially relevant to the film, e.g. lead animator, VFX designer, music) Brief crew biographies for main crew, heads of department Still photos from the film (colour at 300 dpi, jpg or tif format) – at least 5 Behind-the scenes still photos of the production (colour at 300 dpi, jpg or tif format), including director and crew Logline for the film – one or two sentences that describe the film and its theme Synopses of the film in several lengths (in English and original language): short – 1/2 page or less, medium – 2/3, 1 page long Brief biography of the director Filmography of the director Photograph of the director (colour at 300 dpi, jpg or tif format) Director’s statement (500 words) Dialogue list in English and original language (with time code) Country of production Year of production Exact running time List of festivals participated in so far Positive reviews of the film if available Poster (300 dpi) Trailer File of film for publicity clip use, e.g. mp4 (have versions with and without English subtitles if not in English) Website url, social media pages As much of this as possible should also be available as an EPK (electronic press kit). Many festival submission platforms allow for online submission of an EPK. Some festivals will only ask for an EPK if your film is selected. Alternatively, much of the information in the list above can be uploaded via festival submission platforms. Film for submission – Some festivals require that all projects be submitted via a password-protected streaming URL link, e.g. Vimeo, YouTube. Others will accept a film uploaded through a submission platform or the festival’s website. Some festivals will accept a DVD and may specify the region and file format. DVDs must be labelled with title, production company name, phone number and address, director’s name, length in minutes, and submission platform tracking number if applicable. Submitted DVDs are unlikely to be returned. Film for screening if selected – Different festivals have different requirements. For example, this is for the Tribeca Film Festival: (i) one (1) exhibition copy (technical specifications must be confirmed by the Festival in advance) of the invited work; (ii) a backup copy or copies, as required by the technical department; and (iii) additional exhibition copies, if requested by the Festival (to allow for multiple screenings at more than one venue). It is recommended that you ship all exhibition copies via courier in order to permit the tracking of your project once it leaves your hands. Other festivals require a DCP of the film, with a DVD or Blu-ray as a backup. All links, DCPs and DVDs should be tested before sending them to a festival. Rights clearance – Most festivals’ rules and regulations have a clause like this: All rights, permissions and clearances must be obtained prior to submission and applicants must ensure that they have the right to submit the work with regard to third parties connected to the production of the film in question. By entering your work, you agree to this and the responsibilities involved. The festival assumes no liability for violation of copyright law. This applies to any music, video or film footage, copyrighted images or archive material used in the film. Proof of student status - if submitting to a festival’s student film category, you may be required to provide valid proof of your student status if selected (showing that you are currently a student or were during the making of the film).
